Despite lining up box office bombs, SSU is going strong with plenty of projects in development. ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ is set to release in a week, ‘Kraven the Hunter’ releases in December, and ‘Spider-Man Noir’ is currently in development at Amazon.
There have also been some rumors that the planned movie focusing on Sinister Six is still in development.
The latest rumors brought by Daniel Richtman on his Patreon account claim that one SSU project is back in development – the one focusing on Silver Sable
Silver Sable is a skilled mercenary, hunter, and soldier from Latvia. She is the daughter of the former leader of the Silver Sable Sablinova family, which has a long-standing history of hunting war criminals. Her background is marked by her commitment to bringing criminals to justice, often using unconventional methods.
She has been associated with various groups and characters in the Marvel Universe, including Silver Sable International and the Wild Pack – which might bring her into a possible connection with Kraven.
Silver Sable was supposed to get her own movie ages ago. ‘Silver & Black’ was an unproduced film based on Silver Sable and Black Cat, intended as part of SSU. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the screenplay was co-written with contributions from Lisa Joy, Chris Yost, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
The project initially aimed to feature Black Cat, who was first intended for the unproduced ‘Spider-Man 4’ before appearing in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ (2014). Development began in October 2014, with the film officially focused on Silver Sable and Black Cat by March 2017.
Although pre-production started, including plans for casting a Black actress in one of the roles, the director’s dissatisfaction with the script caused production delays.
In July 2018, Prince-Bythewood opted to direct ‘The Old Guard,’ leading Sony to cancel ‘Silver & Black’ the following month. The studio then shifted focus to two separate solo films for each character, with Prince-Bythewood expected to remain as a producer.
By January 2020, plans evolved into developing the project as a television series, and in July 2020, Prince-Bythewood expressed interest in returning to the project after her work on ‘The Old Guard.’
Based on this information, we can assume that little has changed now that the development supposedly restarted. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
