Simu Liu Shares an Update on the Much-Anticipated ‘Shang-Chi’ Sequel

The first Shang-Chi movie was a notable success for Marvel, resonating well with audiences despite some criticisms of certain plot elements. Given its success, fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel, which Marvel has officially announced.
However, updates on the sequel have been sparse. In response to this, series star Simu Liu, the Canadian actor who plays Shang-Chi, was recently asked about the sequel’s progress. While he didn’t provide specific details, he did share some insights into the current status of the highly anticipated follow-up.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered in 2021, garnering mostly positive reviews and earning $432.2 million against a budget of $150-200 million, marking it as a success. Fans appreciated Marvel’s expansion of its character roster, and Simu Liu’s portrayal of the titular superhero was well-received. Marvel confirmed a sequel would be in the works, but updates have been sparse, leaving some fans concerned.
Currently, Liu is promoting his new film, Jackpot!, where he reunites with his Shang-Chi co-star Awkwafina. During his press tour, Liu was asked about the status of the Shang-Chi sequel and had some reassuring news for fans.
“A lot of it is above my pay grade but it’s definitely happening. So just very excited to kind of work on it and its going to be amazing. I really can’t say anything beyond that.”
