Some Fans Don’t Want to See Zendaya Back for ‘Spider-Man 4’ & They Might Have a Point

‘Spider-Man 4’ is the next installment in Spider-Man’s movie series in the MCU. The movie was confirmed to be in development last year, but besides that, little updates have been given about the state of the project.

We know that the movie was looking for a new director since Jon Watts decided to step down and focus on other projects outside of the MCU. Former director recently explained that the success of ‘No Way Home’ will be hard to replicate so it’s best to leave on a high note.

Yesterday it’s been announced that Destin Daniel Cretton is in serious talks to helm the movie, with Zendaya and Tom Holland also negotiating their return.

Tom Holland is naturally expected to reprise his role, Zendaya on the other hand isn’t. As you are likely aware, at the end of ‘No Way Home’ Strange’s spell works and everyone collectively forgets all about Spider-Man, including MJ. At the end of the movie, Peter Parker has the opportunity to re-introduce himself to MJ, but chooses against it, obviously thinking that the lives of his friends will be less complicated once he is out of the picture.

Insider reports also state that Zendaya also won’t sign on for a cameo role, meaning her role has to be much bigger. But, does it even make sense? No, it doesn’t and fans agree as the reactions to her return weren’t as good as you would expect:

Fans raised several good points, primarily it doesn’t make sense to include MJ in the movie in a bigger role if she has no interactions with Spider-Man, and she can’t have that many interactions if she doesn’t remember him at all due to the spell. If the writers decide to undo the spell, it’s going to undo the emotional impact that ‘No Way Home’ had.

As the fans suggested it might make much more sense to give Spider-Man a new supporting cast and perhaps even a new love interest. Fans have long been hoping that Black Cat will be introduced to the MCU and that she would be played by none other than Sydney Sweeney.

Black Cat would be a breath of fresh air in the franchise and would be able to support Spider-Man’s character from the perspective that MJ can’t. Her dynamic with Peter is as some pointed out become very stale, so it’s time to shake up things a bit.

Black Cat has occasionally operated outside the law, which can put her at odds with Spider-Man, who maintains a strict moral code. This tension adds depth to their interactions and keeps their dynamic fresh and engaging.
