‘Sonic’ franchise is currently on a roll with several successful installments. ‘Sonic 3’ turned out to be a massive hit among the audiences and has enjoyed a positive critical reception by critics.

There was high praise for Jim Carrey’s and Keanu Reeves’s performances, especially Reeves’ portrayal of Shadow. Before ‘Sonic 3’ fans could enjoy ‘Knuckles’ a spinoff show focusing on Idris Elba’s character from the movie franchise. The ‘Knuckles’ series received mixed to positive reviews with praise for its visuals, performances, and humor, though some felt it lacked broader appeal.

Critics highlighted Idris Elba and Adam Pally’s chemistry, action, and lighthearted tone, but others criticized its pacing, writing, and use of human characters.

Now ‘Sonic 4’ has already been announced, but why not expand the franchise even further with more solo projects dedicated to supporting characters?

Colleen O’Shaughnessey expressed excitement about the idea of a ‘Tails’ spin-off, the character she voices in the franchise. She suggested an origin story for Tails, exploring his beginnings as a “little baby Tails,” while also acknowledging the strong dynamic between Tails and Sonic. O’Shaughnessey expressed that it would be interesting to learn more about Tails’ background.

I think you could absolutely do a spin-off with Tails. An origin story for Tails would be amazing, to see where he came from… a little baby Tails. I would love it. Is it of course amazing to have him with Sonic? For sure, because they are you know… a sidekick/hero combination. They work so well together. But I think it would be really neat to see where he came from. Why not?

O’Shaughnessey voiced Tails for over a decade, and she highlighted the character’s charm and appeal. She described Tails as smart, clever, loyal, and earnest, emphasizing his sincerity and trustworthy nature.

He’s adorable. He’s smart, he’s clever, he’s earnest, he’s loyal… he’s your best friend, always. What you see is what you get. There’s no surreptitiousness… he’s not sneaking around, he’s not trying to get something out of you. What you see is what you get. And he’s just so dear. I just love him.
