‘Spider-Man 4’: When Will Peter Undo the Memory Spell? Insider Hints at the Key Moment!

Announced last year, Spider-Man 4 is officially in development, though details remain scarce. What has been confirmed is that Tom Holland and Zendaya will reprise their roles, with Destin Daniel Cretton set to direct.
Before the film’s confirmation, reports suggested Marvel Studios was torn between two potential directions: a Multiversal storyline continuing from No Way Home or a grounded, street-level narrative featuring Daredevil and Kingpin.
However, after Robert Downey Jr. was confirmed to return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, Marvel Studios reportedly decided to pursue the Multiversal storyline.
Since development was confirmed, speculation about potential villains has been nonstop. Rumors have linked the film to various iconic foes, including Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Knull, Vulture, and more from Spider-Man’s legendary rogues’ gallery.
Not much is known about the story, but it’s understood that the memory spell will play a significant role in the upcoming installment. Doctor Strange’s spell left Peter in a difficult place, but with Zendaya confirmed to reprise her role, there’s speculation that the spell may begin to unravel.
There’s also a very real possibility that the spell caused incursions to start happening, or at the very least affected them by making them worse.
Previously, it was hinted that the spell would finally break when the MCU undergoes its rumored soft reboot following Secret Wars. Now, industry insider Alex Perez has offered some clarification on when that pivotal moment might occur.
Perez was once again asked when the spell would be undone and he had a simple answer: “When Peter chooses to. “
Alex Perez’s response suggests that the undoing of Doctor Strange’s memory spell in Spider-Man 4 will be entirely up to Peter Parker. This implies that rather than an external force or event breaking the spell—such as the rumored MCU soft reboot—Peter himself will have the power to reverse it when he decides to.
In the comics, Doctor Strange’s spell made everyone forget that Peter Parker was Spider-Man. It also made it so that even if Peter took off his mask, people still couldn’t recognize him.
However, there was a catch—Peter could choose to reveal his identity to someone, and if he did, that person would not only see his face but also remember everything about him being Spider-Man.
Later, during the Spider-Island storyline, Peter gave a big speech while unmasked. Because he willingly revealed himself, the magic broke, and people could start figuring out his identity again.
So the part of Peter willingly breaking the spell would correspond to what happened in the comics.
