Qui-Gon Jinn was the Jedi Master who trained Obi-Wan Kenobi, who would then go on to train both Anakin and Luke Skywalker. Qui-Gon was known for being a Jedi who thought differently from the rest and even refused a seat on the Jedi Council due to his beliefs. He regularly conflicted with the other Jedi Masters and was known to be very impulsive. Qui-Gon had to have learned these traits from somewhere, but where from? Here’s who trained Qui-Gon Jinn!
The Jedi master who trained Qui-Gon Jinn was Count Dooku. Dooku trained Qui-Gon before he fell to the Dark Side, where he became the apprentice of Darth Sidious. Dooku was quite rebellious against the Jedi Order and always questioned how things were done. These were traits that he passed on to his apprentice, Qui-Gon Jinn.
Now that we have briefly discussed who trained Qui-Gon Jinn, let’s look at the topic in more detail. If you are interested in what he was like as an apprentice, what Count Dooku taught him, and why Dooku turned to the Dark Side, stay with us and keep reading!
What was Qui-Gon Jinn like as an apprentice?
Just like his master, Qui-Gon thought differently from the rest of the Jedi Order and conflicted with their views quite often. Qui-Gon and Dooku were assigned to each other, which was very uncommon in the Jedi Order.
However, due to their similar beliefs, Dooku had a lot of respect for his apprentice. While they had similar personalities, there were times when Qui-Gon was intimidated by Dooku due to his willingness to use the Dark Side of the Force. He used Force Lightning once to save Qui-Gon’s life. This made Qui-Gon both grateful and disturbed as it showed the lengths his master would go to to save him and how easy it was for him to tap into the Dark Side.
What was Count Dooku like as a master?
Count Dooku was very different from the typical Jedi Masters. He wasn’t too keen on their methods and would often conflict with their views. He taught his apprentice to think outside the box and not to follow what the Jedi told him blindly.
As much as these views were passed on to Qui-Gon, he wasn’t as extreme as Dooku. Count Dooku was known for being a master at dueling and was well respected among the Jedi as a master. After spending over 70 years as a Jedi, Dooku had vast knowledge that he would pass on to Qui-Gon, who also became one of the best duellists in the Jedi Order.
Who trained Count Dooku?
Before he trained Qui-Gon Jinn, Dooku was trained by Master Yoda, where he learned many of his skills and abilities in the Force. Due to the teachings of Yoda, Dooku became one of the best duellists in the Galaxy, only to be rivaled by Mace Windu. He is known for his curved hilt and fighting with one hand using Form 2, also known as Makashi.
Why did Count Dooku turn to the Dark Side?
Count Dooku turned to the Dark Side mainly because he was one of the first to notice the Jedi becoming controlled by the Republic. He was already conflicting with the Jedi Order, and watching them become more controlled is what led him to Darth Sidious. By turning to Palpatine, Dooku learned that Darth Sideous controlled the Republic and realized that the Jedi were starting to become pawns of the evil they set out to destroy.
By the time of Qui-Gon’s death, Dooku was already working with Palpatine and slowly being seduced by the Dark Side. However, when he discovers that Maul has killed his apprentice, it fully sends him to the Dark Side. After the death of Qui-Gon, Jedi Master Yaddle discovers that Dooku is working with the Sith Lord they are looking for. Upon discovering this, Palpatine orders Dooku to kill Yaddle, which he does without hesitation. He then officially becomes Darth Tyranus of the Sith.
How did Count Dooku react to Qui-Gon’s death?
Even though he was already on his way to the Dark Side by the time Qui-Gon died, Dooku was still devastated. The death of his former apprentice finally set him over the edge and made him fall completely to the Dark Side. Through the years, he had already doubts about the Jedi Order and was noticing it slowly becoming pawns of the Republic, so when his former apprentice died, it sealed the nail in the coffin for him to become Palpatine’s new apprentice.
Was Count Dooku evil?
Count Dooku started with good intentions and wanted to change how the Galaxy was run. This was what initially led him to fall to the Dark Side, and while he was not evil to begin with, the corruption of the Dark Side led him down an evil path. His first truly evil act was the murder of Jedi Master Yaddle. From there, the Dark Side corrupted him to the point where he lost his true intentions.
Count Dooku committed countless evil acts during his time in the Dark Side. He was the one who commissioned the assassination of Padme Amidala, tortured Quinlan Vos, and even the one who commissioned the army of Clone Troopers, who would then go on to eradicate the Jedi Order. Count Dooku is a prime example of someone initially turning for the right reasons but eventually becoming corrupted by the Dark Side and losing his way.
