Stephen Amell Claims Warner Bros. Ruined the Opportunity for a ‘Green Arrow’ Movie

The Arrowverse was the DC(E)U before the DC(E)U even existed. This interconnected TV universe began with Arrow, centering on Green Arrow, and laid the foundation for a series of high-profile superhero shows, including The Flash. The franchise gained significant popularity, with Arrow and The Flash leading the way.

Stephen Amell played Oliver Queen in what many consider his standout role. The character’s popularity led fans to call for a solo movie and his inclusion in the main DCEU, which could have been a major moment for world-building.

However, these plans never came to fruition. The Arrowverse was eventually wrapped up, and the DCEU shifted its focus. In a recent interview, Stephen Amell expressed his desire to see Arrow return and revealed that a Green Arrow movie was pitched to Warner Bros. Stay tuned to find out what happened!

It’s been some time since the Arrowverse wrapped up, and Stephen Amell had been relatively quiet about it. However, he’s recently opened up about the franchise, partly due to a minor controversy involving comments about his role and the series. We’ve covered that issue before, so we won’t dwell on it here.

What’s intriguing is Amell’s recent conversation with ComicBook.com, where he shared two interesting updates. First, he expressed enthusiasm for a potential Arrow revival and mentioned his desire to make it darker and more mature:

“I mean, I joked about it. Because I think that it would be wonderful one of these days to go back and do something that was in a medium where I could break bones and drop an F-bomb and just sort of go the ‘hard r’ [rating] version of Arrow.”

He was also questioned about the possibility of a Green Arrow movie where he would reprise his role. Amell revealed that an idea for such a film was pitched to Warner Bros., but the studio rejected it outright.

“To my understanding, it just got killed at the studio level from people that, I think, were making decisions… that were fear-based.”

Given the troubled state of the DCEU at the time, it’s understandable that Amell believes the executives were too hesitant to greenlight an Arrow movie. Warner Bros. has yet to respond to these comments, but we’ll keep you updated with any developments as soon as they arise.
