Sterling K. Brown Turned Down a Role in ‘The Boys’
Sterling K. Brown has reached a point in his career where he can pick and choose his roles. Known for his amazing role as Randall Pearson on NBC’s This Is Us, Brown is moving into new projects.
One of his recent decisions was to turn down an exciting offer. Brown was offered a full-season arc on Amazon Prime Video’s hit series The Boys. The offer came from showrunner Eric Kripke, with whom Brown previously worked on Supernatural. Despite the allure of a meaty role, Brown ultimately had to pass.
He admits it was tough to decline because the role sounded like a villainous character, which he found tempting. But the logistics didn’t work out. The shooting was set to take place in Toronto, which would have made it difficult for Brown to juggle his other commitments.
It think it was a bad guy [role], because it was very tempting. But a full-season arc, they are in Toronto — it’s tough. Listen, these are Champagne problems I’m talking about here! But because I’m blessed enough to already have certain things in place, I get a chance to be a bit more choosy.
The decision wasn’t an easy one, but it’s a good example of how far Brown has come. He’s in a position where he doesn’t need to take every job that comes his way. Thanks to his success on shows like This Is Us, Brown is blessed with options and can afford to be selective.
