In April 2024, it was announced that Steven Spielberg is making a new UFO movie based on an idea of his. David Koepp, who worked with Spielberg on movies like Jurassic Park, will write the script.

The movie will star Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo, and it will be released in theaters by Universal Pictures on May 15, 2026. Not much is known about the film yet, but Koepp recently teased what fans can expect.

David Koepp recently talked about returning to the Jurassic Park franchise as the writer for Jurassic World: Rebirth, his first involvement since The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Koepp said he was excited to revisit the series with a tone similar to the original movie, focusing on adventure and real science.

He worked on creating a simple, mission-driven story with new characters, without too many expectations from the franchise. Koepp also created “nine commandments” for the film, inspired by rules from the Roadrunner cartoons, to keep the story consistent with past movies while adding humor and real science.

Towards the end of the interview, Koepp talked about his upcoming project with Spielberg. He said the movie has a classic sci-fi style, similar to Spielberg’s older films, and has a different tone than his recent works. While Koepp didn’t share many details, he confirmed the film would bring back the kind of storytelling Spielberg is known for from his earlier films.

Yes, it is like a sci-fi… Well, I don’t know. I’m not supposed to say. But, yes, it is. It does harken back to maybe a different tone than [what he’s done lately]. Something he used to do that he hasn’t done for a little bit.
