Deadline reports that Eve Ridley, who recently gained recognition in Netflix’s The Three-Body Problem, has been cast as Ruthye Marye Knoll in DC Studios’ upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
This role marks a major career leap for Ridley, whose standout performance in the Netflix series has already drawn industry attention. In this adaptation of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s comic, Ridley’s character Ruthye embarks on an interstellar quest for revenge, teaming up with Supergirl to avenge her father’s murder at the hands of the villain Krem, played by Matthias Schoenaerts.
Starring opposite Ridley, Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) takes on the role of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, in what promises to be an exciting addition to the DCU lineup. Craig Gillespie (Cruella) is set to direct, with a screenplay by Ana Nogueira (The Vampire Diaries), setting the stage for a bold new chapter in the Supergirl story.
In this adaptation, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows Supergirl on a journey across the galaxy, celebrating her 21st birthday with her loyal companion, Krypto the Superdog. Along the way, she meets Ruthye, launching them into a shared mission for vengeance.
The film presents a grittier, more battle-hardened Supergirl, shaped by her difficult upbringing on a fragment of Krypton—a stark contrast to Superman’s more peaceful, Earth-bound childhood. James Gunn, a key force behind the project, has noted that this version of Supergirl will reveal a tougher side, molded by survival rather than nurturing.
This new portrayal promises to redefine the classic Supergirl image, bringing depth and complexity to the character. As excitement builds for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is set for release on June 26, 2026, fans are eager to see DC Studios’ bold new approach to the Supergirl legacy.
Before headlining her own film, Alcock’s Supergirl is anticipated to make her DCU debut in Superman next summer, paving the way for her solo adventure.
With a strong cast lineup and an exciting new storyline, DC Studios appears poised to make Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow a standout in their cinematic universe.
