‘Superman & Lois’ Season 4 Premiere Teased a Major DC Comics Villain

Share:

‘Superman & Lois’ recently returned to the screen with a two-hour premiere. Picking up just where Season 3 had ended. Superman was locked in a world-breaking fight with Luthor’s monster (Doomsday).

Something unimaginable happened. Something that the actors and producers have been teasing since the promos for Season 4 started – Superman died.

The battle between Doomsday and Superman lasted for 24 hours. As Superman attempted to defeat Doomsday with his heat vision, Doomsday retaliated by punching him through an entire planet.

Doomsday returned to Earth and left Superman’s body in Smallville, in front of Lois and their sons.

The horrors flows even deeper when they discover that Superman’s heart has been removed. It was later presented as some kind of a macabre gift to Lex Luthor. Luthor had a special box made to contain the heart.

Lex Luthor is shown with a transparent box featuring a metal frame and a UV-like light shining inside, which seems to be designed to weaken Superman’s heart. Lex mentions that its designer, “Milton,” assured him it would work. When Lex praises the device, Amanda McCoy warns him not to boost the “Brainiac’s” ego too much.

We’ve speculated that Season 4 would introduce yet another massive villain to the story, but we weren’t completely sure it was going to be Brainiac. Introducing him so “late” to the story opens up some interesting possibilities for the finale of the show.

Executive producer Brent Fletcher commented on the inclusion of Brainiac and stated that it’s going to be a different version of the character:

Considering what we needed for our story when the opportunity presented itself to use Milton, it worked out great. This is a completely different version of this guy, so that was exciting. We always like to tell our own version of [the story], and it ends up being pretty fun.

Fletcher also pointed out that this version of the villain will be pretty specific to the show, as all stories had to be optimized to fit within a 10-episode frame. Keep in mind that this is a gargantuan task since we have yet to see the resurrection of Superman.
