The Sandman (TV Series)
‘The Sandman’ is a comic book series written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC Comics. It featured artists like Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg, and others, with lettering by Todd Klein and covers by Dave McKean. The series originally ran for 75 issues from January 1989 to March 1996, transitioning to DC’s Vertigo imprint from issue No. 47, and later reprinted under DC’s Black Label.
The main character is Dream, also known as Morpheus, one of the seven Endless, including Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium (formerly Delight), and Destruction (the Prodigal). The series blends mythology, history, and horror within the DC Universe, focusing on Dream’s capture and his realization that change is sometimes inevitable.
**The Sandman** has received critical acclaim, being one of the first graphic novels on The New York Times Best Seller list and included in Entertainment Weekly’s “100 best reads from 1983 to 2008.” It has significantly influenced the fantasy genre and graphic novel medium and is considered one of the greatest graphic novels of all time.
Various adaptations have been developed, including an initially planned film starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who later dropped out, and full-cast audio dramas on Audible starring James McAvoy. In August 2022, Netflix released a television adaptation starring Tom Sturridge.
