Many of us were worried about how Disney’s new Star Wars show, The Acolyte, would turn out. It was a controversial project even before it premiered, as people weren’t sure how it would be received. The creators announced it as the “gayest Star Wars” project to date, which angered many fans who felt Disney was prioritizing an agenda over the story.

Now that the series has premiered, it seems The Acolyte is becoming one of the better Star Wars shows. In our earlier report, we said The Acolyte wasn’t perfect but had a lot of potential, which was the general opinion at the time. Initially, it received a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating of 88%, but it has now improved to 91%. This suggests that the 31% audience rating might be due to review bombing, as we suspected.

Here’s how critics are describing the series on Rotten Tomatoes: “Taking fresh risks with Star Wars lore while having infectious fun with the stylistic elements of a galaxy far, far away, The Acolyte is a Padawan series with the potential to become a Master.” This lines up with our opinion, and most top critics on Rotten Tomatoes agree that the series shows great potential.

While series ratings usually drop over time, The Acolyte is actually gaining popularity. After several days of streaming, its rating has risen to 91%, up from 88%. This makes it the second-best live-action Star Wars series, surpassing The Mandalorian. Only Andor has better ratings, with Ahsoka in fourth place.

We can’t say what the final ratings will be, but The Acolyte is doing well. This success suggests that the low fan ratings (31% on Rotten Tomatoes, 3.3/10 on Metacritic) are likely due to review bombing by fans who dislike the show’s themes and messages, and many of them probably haven’t even watched it.

We’ll keep you updated on the show’s progress in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
