‘The Acolyte’ Petition Passed an Important Milestone Sparking Hopes that The Show Might Get Renewed

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the most recent installment in the franchise and so far, the most controversial. Even before the show was released the project faced backlash due to perceived “wokeness” and some controversial statements made by the cast and crew.

When the show was ultimately released, despite the $180M budget, it suffered from a clear lack of quality both when it comes to writing, acting, costumes, and overall feel of the show. The main storyline also offered nothing of importance feeling like a cheaper copy of Anakin’s origin story, or so the fans described it.

After facing scandals and low viewership, the show was ultimately canceled which came as a shock to no one. The official reasons for the cancelation were not put forward by Lucasfilm or Disney, but some insider reports state that it had nothing to do with ideological wars and had everything to do with crunching numbers.

Soon after the cancellation, the fans of the show started several social movements. Hashtags #SaveTheAcolyte and #RenewTheAcolyte started trending on X, and a petition was started on Change.org in an attempt to revive the show.

This petition ultimately passed one very significant milestone. So far it amassed over 50,000 signatures, or 53, 955 at the time of the writing.

Now this is quite a number of people who would love to see the show continue Osha’s and Qimir’s stories. Such fan campaigns are nothing new and they have been successful in the past. Either a different studio would pick up the show or the shows/movies were funded by fans on Kickstarter and other relevant platforms.

Each milestone that the petition surpasses makes the renewal all the more likely, however, if fans can’t come up with at least $180M to fund season 2, Disney, in light of recent financial troubles, seems unlikely to invest money in it.

In contrast, the petition to de-canonize ‘The Acolyte’ currently has 485 signatures, and its proceeding at a much slower pace. Both requests seem unlikely to be granted by the studio.
