‘The Acolyte’ Star Jodie Turner-Smith Blasts Disney for Not Defending Her Against Racists: “People are getting f***** dog-piled on the internet with racism”

‘The Acolyte’ is Star Wars’ most recent installment, it’s also one of the worst installments in the long history of the franchise. Despite Disney investing around $160M in its development, the show turned out to be sub-par at best.

Its low viewership eventually led to its cancelation after a mere 8 episodes. Depending on who you ask, the show was canceled due to racism and misogyny.

At least this tends to be a common theme when it comes to online discussions regarding the show. During the show’s run, stars of the show primarily Amandla Stenberg who portrayed twins Osha and Mae, was allegedly targeted by racists.

She went as far as to write a song and self-publish it to strike back at them. Now Jodie Turner-Smith who portrayed Mother Aniseya blasted Disney for not answering to racists and critics of the shows.

In her recent interview with Glamour Magazine, Smith had a few choice words for the media company:

They’ve got to stop doing this thing where they don’t say anything when people are getting fucking dog-piled on the internet with racism and bullshit. It’s just not fair to not say anything. It’s really unfair.

While Disney should have stood behind the stars if they could provide legitimate evidence of racism targeted towards them, it’s kind of difficult to debunk legitimate criticism that the show is just bad.

Still, Smith raises some good points, it’s no longer “dangerous” to speak out publically against racism. The times have changed and black people are taking part in the entertainment industry like never before:

It would just be nice if the people that have all the money, were showing their support and putting their feet down. Say this is unacceptable: ‘You’re not a fan if you do this.’ Make a really big statement and just see if any money leaves.

I bet you it won’t, because people of colour, and especially Black people, make up a very large percentage of buying power. They might find that it’s actually more lucrative for them, but everyone’s using ‘woke’ like it’s a dirty word.

Smith also added white men to the mix, claiming that black people can’t fail upwards like white men:

We don’t get to fail upwards like a lot of white men. I just feel that some people are allowed to grow and others have to be perfect, and if they’re not perfect – even when it’s great – people want to fucking tear it apart.
