The fourth season of The Boys premiered on June 13, 2024, and concluded on July 18, 2024, with impressive viewership numbers. Meanwhile, HBO’s House of the Dragon aired its long-awaited second season from June 16 to August 4, 2024, following a successful first season in 2022. This season also garnered strong ratings and is considered a success.

However, despite the impressive performance of both series, the overall ratings for this summer reveal that neither The Boys Season 4 nor House of the Dragon Season 2 claimed the top spot. Instead, both were outshined by a different show.

We haven’t covered this show much here on Comic Basics, as it belongs to a different genre, but this Netflix series emerged as the clear winner of the summer season. We’ll reveal more about it in the upcoming paragraphs.

The official Nielsen numbers for The Boys Season 4 and House of the Dragon Season 2 are in, and they’re quite impressive, with both series performing well. We’ve already reported how The Boys broke several records, and while House of the Dragon may not have shattered any records, it matched the success of its first season, leaving fans satisfied with its outcome.

However, despite these strong numbers, neither show came close to being the clear winner of the summer season, as confirmed by the data. In fact, the combined overall numbers for these two series still fall short of this season’s undisputed champion, as illustrated by the following chart:

So, which series took the top spot? If you guessed Bridgerton, you’re right! We’ve hinted at this in several earlier reports, but it’s worth emphasizing that the Netflix romance series dominated the competition this season, posting outstanding numbers and topping the charts every week except one. The overall ratings were simply phenomenal.

Of course, it helps that Bridgerton appeals to a broader audience than the other two shows and benefits from Netflix’s status as the largest streaming platform. Still, these results are impressive, and we can only congratulate everyone involved in this incredible success.
