Superman: Legacy will be the newest reboot for the most known DC superhero of all time and the first movie in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. The movie was officially announced last February, with a release date set on July 11, 2025. James Gunn confirmed he’s currently writing the movie, and he’s set to direct it as well, but there’s still no word about the cast.

Now, there is a rumor on Reddit going around that Gabriel LaBelle is in talks to join the first DCU movie, although it isn’t specified if he’s negotiating for the title role or not. Gabriel LaBelle is a young American-Canadian actor who is currently best known for the role of Sammy Fabelman in Steven Spielberg’s movie The Fabelmans, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards, although it didn’t win any of them.

The situation at DC and WB started to change rapidly when Warner Bros. merged with Discovery. Now, a new company known as Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) renamed its subsidiary company DC Films, to DC Studios, and James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired by WBD’s CEO David Zaslav to plan a new cinematic universe based on DC characters instead of DCEU, which will conclude this year with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

James Gunn Officially Confirms He’s Directing ‘Superman: Legacy’

Gunn announced that he was looking for a new, younger actor to play Superman in DCU after Henry Cavill, who played the character in DCEU, announced that he won’t return to play the character anymore. Although that caused outrage among Cavill’s fans and Snyderverse fanatics, Gunn insisted on his idea for the new cinematic universe, and he uncovered some of the first DCU projects. This new universe will spawn live-action movies, TV shows, and animated projects.

Superman: Legacy will be the first DCU movie, but we can expect the Creature Commandos animated series, which will premiere on MAX before that. MAX is a new streaming service that will replace the current HBOMax on May 23 in the United States.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman: Legacy is set to be released on July 11, 2025.
