‘The Marvels’ Producer Is Hinting at the Sequel, but Some Fans Are Not Happy to Jump on That Train: “We are not ready”

2023 wasn’t that great for Disney. It was the first year in recent times that the franchise did not have a billion-dollar movie, and it was marked by the failure of most Marvel Studio projects.

‘The Marvels’ was released in November 2023, and while it was expected that it wouldn’t surpass or come close to the original box office success of ‘Captain Marvel,’ no one could anticipate that it would lose a staggering amount of money.

‘The Marvels’ is currently the lowest-grossing MCU movie so far, and it’s also the first MCU movie not to cross the $100 million threshold at the domestic box office. It wasn’t that much of a surprise when industry insiders reported that ‘Captain Marvel 3’ was planned but was ultimately “shelved” for the time being. There have also been reports that Monica Rambeau was supposed to get her own Disney+ miniseries, which was also scrapped following poor ‘The Marvels’ results.

Despite these reports, Mary Livanos, who served as the producer on the movie teases something potential in the future. In her interview with ComicBook, Livanos stated that audiences (and herself) will have to tune in (to what??) to see the significant and potential future that the post-credits scene featuring Beast and Maria Rambeau, Monica’s mother, might bring:

“I think fans and myself will have to tune in to find out,”

Fans did not take to that answer lightly, and plenty voiced their concerns:

Fans are not in the wrong to doubt those words, considering that MCU is kind of narratively a bit of a mess currently, phase 4 alone left a bunch of plot holes and loose ends that were never addressed, so what the future brings for Maria, Monica and Beast in that strange reality, who knows?
