‘The Penguin’ Finally Hits Nielsen Charts Following Finale on Max, After a Long Absence
Matt Reeves’ ‘The Penguin,’ part of the Batman crime saga, wrapped up its first season a few weeks ago. Since the pilot aired, it’s been called “the greatest” superhero show in recent years and has had strong viewership numbers. According to SambaTV, the show topped the viewership charts for six weeks straight, but the show was strangely absent from Nielsen charts.
The finale of the show attracted 2.1 million viewers in the U.S. across HBO and Max, setting a new audience record. This is a 50% increase from its debut viewership, according to Warner Bros. Discovery, though the exact premiere numbers were not shared.
Now after a long wait, ‘The Penguin’ managed to land on the Nielsen streaming charts. The show is holding #9 spot with 595 million minutes watched between November 11-17, 2024.
‘The Penguin’ has been just outside the top 10 of acquired series for most of its run. According to Nielsen, the show has gained 3.8 billion minutes of viewing on Max in over eight weeks, plus 650 million more minutes from its airings on HBO.
The most recent chart shows ‘Family Guy’ is at the top with 970 million minutes viewed on Hulu, followed closely by ‘Bob’s Burgers’ with 968 million minutes, also on Hulu.
Other popular shows include ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ with 926 million minutes across Hulu and Netflix, ‘Bluey’ with 919 million minutes on Disney+, and ‘Lost’ with 854 million minutes on Hulu and Netflix. ‘SpongeBob SquarePants,’ ‘Gossip Girl’, and ‘Yellowstone’ also made the list, with strong showings on Paramount+, Hulu, and Peacock.
