The Pym Particle Power Play Ahead in the MCU: Rumors Tease Potential “Use & Abuse” of Technology
Though smaller in scale compared to other MCU films, ‘Ant-Man’ franchise has had a big impact by introducing new technology, characters, and storylines that continue to affect the larger MCU, especially with the multiverse at play currently and quantum realm.
‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ the latest installment in the franchise also kickstarted MCU’s phase 5 and was supposed to introduce Kang the Conqueror, the main villain of the Multiversal Phase.
The movie flopped. It received mixed reviews at best and is considered a true box office bomb earning $476.1 million when it needed $600 million to break even. This is why the outlook for the franchise doesn’t look so well at the moment.
Still, according to the latest rumors brought to us by Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez, even if we can’t look forward to a new movie, we can expect their technology to play a role in the future of the MCU.
Perez writes that in ‘Quantumania,’ Hope uses the Pym Particles for good, running the Pym Van Dyne Foundation to help communities. However, since the Pym Particles are now publicly available, others will try to misuse them for their own benefit.
He emphasizes that this isn’t the main focus of the story but part of a bigger plot, similar to how the Department of Damage Control (DODC) controls much of Stark technology and will eventually play a role in the government’s response to mutants after ‘Secret Wars.’
Alex Perez: Sure. So, in Quantumania, it’s revealed that Hope runs the Pym Van Dyne Foundation and uses the Pym Particle to help communities worldwide. That is a noble act. However, there will be others seeking to abuse the potential of those Pym Particles, since they are now available publicly, for their gain. It really isn’t that big of a major storyline in it of itself, but rather part of a larger storyline, kind of like how DODC has about 70-80% control of Stark technology and will eventually become the government’s response to mutants later on post-Secret Wars.
Perez also addressed the potential interactions between Cassie Lang, who recently took on the alias of Stature and is officially counted among Young Avengers, and Ava Starr who will make a grand return to the MCU in the upcoming ‘Thunderbolts*’ flick. Perez unfortunately is unsure whether the two characters will interact in the future:
Alex Perez: I don’t know if we’ll see Ava and Cassie interact, although they should.
