The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has become a hit on Amazon, despite varying fan opinions. As we’ve previously reported, the series has been renewed for a second season, set to premiere with eight episodes on August 29, 2024. The upcoming season promises to be a major summer event, and anticipation is already building, especially with recent announcements from the showrunners.

Season 2 will delve deeper into the villains, with Sauron taking on a more prominent role, a development that has generated considerable excitement among fans. Additionally, the cast has recently revealed some intriguing new details about Sauron and his involvement in the upcoming season, which we’re excited to share with you.

In a recent interview with GQ, the cast and crew of The Rings of Power shared new insights about Sauron and what to expect from him in Season 2. Charlie Wickers, who plays the character, was among those revealing details. Here’s what he had to say:

“Tolkien once wrote of a moment where Sauron was brought low and had to repent, and that’s where we find him at the beginning of season two. He gets to this teetering point where he’s like ‘I could take another path.’ I don’t know whether it’s genuine or not, but I like the ambiguity of it.”

He also elaborated on his transformation into Annatar, a significant narrative development that will feature prominently in Season 2:

“We had strict movement rules. Elves don’t look down, apparently. They just know where they are going at all times. They don’t look down even when they’re going downstairs, which is impossible when you’re wearing robes that hit the floor!”

Charles Edwards, who will portray the Elf Celebrimbor in Season 2, also shared his insights, noting how Sauron will have a major impact on Celebrimbor’s storyline in the upcoming season:

“Sauron says everything to appeal to the chinks in Celebrimbor’s psyche. He is susceptible to vanity, to flattery, to vulnerability.”

This dynamic promises to be fascinating, and we’re eager to see what the writers and cast have planned for Season 2.
