Season 2 of The Rings of Power premiered last week with its first three episodes, successfully setting the stage for the rest of the season. The episodes have introduced various plotlines, including Sauron’s influence over Celebrimbor, the corruption of the Dwarves, and new insights into Orcs in Middle-Earth. We’ve also witnessed Galadriel’s evolution from a reckless warrior to a more contemplative figure.

Additionally, the season has begun to reveal what Arondir and Isildur have been up to since the dramatic finale of season 1.

Arondir’s love, Bronwyn, has died from an infection caused by Orcish arrows, and Isildur has been presumed dead after the Numenoreans retreated to their island nation.

However, Arondir and Isildur eventually cross paths when Arondir helps Isildur and Estrid during an ambush by Sauron’s followers. As the episode progresses, Arondir and Isildur develop a bond despite their similar but distinct struggles.

Arondir mourns the loss of Bronwyn and faces rejection from Theo, who blames him for his mother’s death. Now an outsider in his community, Arondir feels unanchored except for his desire to help.

Isildur, on the other hand, feels abandoned and cut off from his grieving family. As both men navigate their shared grief and outsider status in a place marked by mistrust, they are likely to find common ground in their mutual need to aid others and combat evil.

Arondir’s fate remains uncertain as he is an original character, but we know the ultimate outcome for Isildur. It is unlikely that Isildur will return to Numenor, especially with Pharazon now set to be the next king. The show seems to be foreshadowing Numenor’s downfall, as Pharazon is expected to fall under Sauron’s influence and challenge the “Ban of the Valar.”

However, Eärien and Elendil, who remain loyal to the Valar and the Elves, are expected to survive the impending destruction and eventually reunite with Isildur.
