Drea de Matteo is best known for her role as Adriana La Cerva on ‘The Sopranos,’ where she portrayed the tragic, conflicted girlfriend of mobster Christopher Moltisanti—a performance that earned her an Emmy. She also starred as Wendy Case, the rebellious ex-wife of Jax Teller, in the popular series ‘Sons of Anarchy’, but as it turns out the actress was offered a Marvel role as well, which she declined for a good reason.

In her recent interview with ComicBookMovie de Matteo explained that she turned down the Marvel role beacuse she wanted to prioritize her family, especially her son who would get upset whenever she had to leave for long shoots.

The actress explained that she no longer felt drawn to the Hollywood lifestyle or the materialism that sometimes comes with it, choosing instead to stay closer to home and live a simpler life.

I was offered some Marvel thing, and I turned that down because my son was crying every time I’d go to Canada to just guest star on something. And I was like, ‘F*ck it. I’m not gonna do it. I have enough money to get us through the winter.’ I don’t want to be this Hermes-toting, Gucci shoe-wearing person. I just didn’t give a shit. I mean, I wear sweatpants and T-shirts all day.

We don’t know which role she was offered, or even if it was an MCU role, however, would that change things at all? According to the actress herself, her career somewhat took a downward turn.

De Matteo shared that her Hollywood career stalled due to her anti-vaccine stance during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to her being effectively “blacklisted” without direct communication.

To support herself financially, she launched a successful OnlyFans account, which she describes as both a way to save her home and a bold, personal statement about embracing discomfort and independence.

I tried not to be outspoken. I tried to be under the radar. But I joined OnlyFans to save my f*cking house. And it was kind of, in a weird way, a political statement. Like a big ‘f*ck it.’ Get comfortable being uncomfortable. That was my statement

Despite all of these claims, the actress does have two projects currently in post-production. ‘Nonnas,’ a comedy directed by Stephen Chbosky, and ‘That’s Amore’ a musical romantic comedy written and directed by Nick Vallelonga, and starring John Travolta, Katherine Heigl, D. B. Sweeney, William Fichtner, and Christopher Walken.

What do you think? Which role was de Matteo offered?
