The Truth Behind the Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson, and Blake Lively Cheating Rumor

Ryan Reynolds is currently one of the most popular actors worldwide, especially when it comes to our sphere of interest which are superheroes, but did you know that the Deadpool actor was once married to MCU’s Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson?

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were married from 2008 to 2011. She was 23 and he was 31 when they wed. Both have since then moved on, but soon following their separation, nasty rumors started spreading that Reynolds was cheating on Johansson with Lively while they were together.

So how did that rumor start anyway? You see it’s all about timing. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds met while filming ‘Green Lantern’ in 2010 when Reynolds was still married to Scarlett Johansson. In October 2010, Blake Lively ended her relationship with Penn Badgley, whom she had dated from 2007 to 2010. In December 2010, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson announced their divorce after two years of marriage. The divorce was finalized in July 2011.

Almost exactly a year later the actor was publically dating Lively, and many people found it suspicious that both broke up with their respective partners while filming the movie together and that they managed to start dating and marry so quickly.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively made their first public appearance together as co-stars in June 2011 at the ‘Green Lantern’ premiere, sparking rumors that they are dating. By October 2011, they were spotted together in Boston, fueling dating speculation. A source later confirmed they were a couple, and they spent the holidays together in Reynolds’ hometown of Vancouver. On September 9, 2012, the couple married in a private ceremony at Boone Hall Plantation in South Carolina.

As you can see at this point it’s been two years between Reynolds’ divorce and his marriage to Blake Lively, but many fans considered it weird that they started dating just 2 months after his divorce was finalized.

Reynolds himself addressed how the couple actually started dating:

We were buddies for a long time, which I think is the best way to have a relationship, to start as friends. About a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and we were both single, we went on a double date — she was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl — and it was like the most awkward date for the respective parties because we were just like fireworks coming across,

We don’t know whether Reynolds cheated on Johansson with Lively, the only thing that we know is that he classifies a few months as a “long time,” but that’s hardly illegal. He most likely did not cheat on his wife since everything that rumor has going for it is timing and speculation.

Both Johansson and Reynolds are at this point happily married to other people. Scarlett Johansson began dating ‘Saturday Night Live’ co-head writer Colin Jost in May 2017. They got engaged in May 2019 and married in October 2020 at their New York home. The couple welcomed a son in August 2021. Johansson splits her time between New York and Los Angeles.

Reynolds is as you all know still married to Lively and the couple currently has 4 children together.
