Thomas Jane, best known for playing Frank Castle in The Punisher (2004), is stepping into the world of comics again. This time, he’s taking on a new role—not as an actor, but as the editor of a horror comic called The Lycan.
The six-issue series is based on a story by Jane and screenwriter David James Kelly (Robin Hood). The script is written by The Girl with All the Gifts author Mike Carey, with artwork by Diego Yapur, coloring from D.C. Alonso, and lettering by AndWorld Design. Cover art comes from Eisner-nominated artist Tim Bradstreet, known for his work on The Punisher and Hellblazer.
The first issue of The Lycan will be released on February 18 through Amazon’s Comixology Originals, partnered with Jane’s own Renegade Entertainment. New issues will follow on April 1, May 13, June 24, August 5, and September 16.
Set in 1777, the story follows a group of tough international big-game hunters who find themselves stranded on a small British island. A nobleman, Lord Ludgate, offers them supplies and help with repairing their ship—on one condition. The hunters must track down and eliminate the terrifying ‘Berserking Beasts’ that have been killing his people.
Jane revealed that the project has been in development for years, but it wasn’t until Carey delivered a truly chilling script that everything fell into place. ‘It wasn’t until Mike Carey turned in his blood-curdling, masterfully executed script that we knew we had something different. Something special,’ Jane shared.
Jane is no stranger to horror, with a long list of genre credits, including The Mist, Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher, 1922, and Before I Wake. Now, he’s bringing his love for the dark and terrifying to comics, promising a story packed with action, monsters, and plenty of blood.
