Tim Allen is gearing up to reprise his iconic role as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 5. The actor recently shared updates on the film, which is set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026.

In an interview promoting his new sitcom, Allen revealed that he had already begun recording lines for the film. “I just did the first five-hour session for Buzz,” he explained, calling it both exciting and challenging. “It’s really weird to get back into it, but I’m so blessed to be Buzz Lightyear, to be honest.”

Allen also expressed his admiration for the script, emphasizing its creativity. “It’s a very, very clever story,” he said. “They wouldn’t have done it if the script wasn’t brilliant, and they wouldn’t have called me and Tom [Hanks] either.” Although plot details remain under wraps, Allen hinted that the story will be something special.

Reflecting on the recording process, Allen described the effort it took to get back into character. “It was really a struggle at first, but maybe two hours in, I was doing Buzz. I think we’re a year out,” he added. According to him, the team is still working on completing and fine-tuning the story, with several more recording sessions ahead.

The Toy Story franchise has been a huge part of Allen’s career since the first film debuted in 1995. He voiced Buzz Lightyear in all four main films but did not return for the 2022 spinoff Lightyear, where Chris Evans took on the role of the astronaut that inspired the toy. Allen’s return in Toy Story 5 brings him back alongside Woody, voiced by Tom Hanks, for another adventure.

While fans eagerly await more details, writer Andrew Stanton teased at D23 that the upcoming movie will explore a fresh concept: “This time around, it’s toy meets tech. It’s going to be fun, and we can’t wait for you all to see it.”

The first four Toy Story films are currently streaming on Disney+, making it easy to revisit the beloved series ahead of the next installment. Allen, for his part, remains enthusiastic about Buzz and the world of Toy Story, calling ita really good story, guys. It’s really good.”
