Top 10 DC Animated Movies Ranked by Fans

Ranker is a popular platform where users can rank anything they choose, anytime they like, based on their personal preferences. This fan-driven ranking system is independent of any official affiliations with the projects it evaluates. Recently, Ranker conducted a comprehensive survey to determine the best DC Comics animated movies. With over 50 films listed, we’ve focused on the top ten to give you a clearer view, complete with our own comments and insights to enrich the discussion.

Given the significance of this list, we’re excited to present the top 10 DC animated movies, ranked from 10th to 1st place, with the top spot being the absolute best. We hope you enjoy this overview!

10. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse

Starting the list with Superman/Batman: Apocalypse is intriguing. This film is notably darker and more narratively complex than its predecessors. The heroes confront the ever-threatening Darkseid, and while rankings are inherently subjective, it’s hard to argue against the fans’ choice here. Nonetheless, there were other strong contenders for this spot.

9. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

If you expected Superman/Batman: Apocalypse to feature a direct battle between Superman and Batman, think again. Instead, both heroes are framed as enemies of the state and must join forces to overcome their adversaries in this engaging political thriller. While it’s not a bad film, it wouldn’t make our top ten. There are many other movies that are more original and memorable. Additionally, the style of this one feels a bit unconventional.

8. Justice League: War

This is a title we wholeheartedly support. We were big fans of the New 52 era, and this movie captures that bold and inventive period of DC Comics perfectly. Justice League: War stands out as a fantastic film, and we agree with its inclusion on the list. In fact, we might have ranked it even higher than its current position.

7. Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths is a notable entry in the multiverse genre, but does it truly deserve its high ranking? While the plot is engaging, it lacks the depth found in some other stories. Although it offers a fresh perspective and is worth considering for a top ten spot, we wouldn’t place it this high on the list, as the film falls short in terms of overall quality.

6. Justice League: Doom

Justice League: Doom is a solid adaptation with an engaging story, yet its placement on this list feels somewhat questionable compared to other titles that didn’t make the cut. Like the previous entry, Doom might have deserved a spot in the top ten, but a sixth-place ranking seems too high given the film’s overall quality. Nevertheless, the fans have had their say…

5. Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker

We fully support this choice. Batman Beyond was an exceptional and groundbreaking series, and the movie continued that high standard of quality. The animation was top-notch, the storyline was gripping, and having Mark Hamill return to voice his iconic character was a fantastic touch. We’re on board with this title being on the list and agree with its ranking.

4. The Dark Knight Returns

Miller’s classic comic book certainly deserves this recognition. Although the adaptation could have benefited from a darker, more somber visual style, it remains a compelling two-part story that effectively captures the grim Gotham envisioned by Frank Miller. Without a doubt, it’s a film that rightfully earns its place here and stands as one of the best DC animated movies of all time.

3. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

Mask of the Phantasm, one of two feature films from Batman: The Animated Series, felt like a brilliantly crafted extended episode of the show—a testament to its quality. With a compelling plot and stunning visuals, it’s no surprise that it continues to be highly regarded, even though it’s now considered a classic and has been around for quite some time.

2. Batman: Under the Red Hood

How did this movie make it onto the list? It’s not just that it’s not the second-best; it doesn’t even rank in the top 20 DC animated films. This film fell short in nearly every way and failed to do justice to an important comic book. It seems fans preferred the story over the adaptation, but we strongly disagree with this particular choice.

1. Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox

While selecting just one movie for this spot is challenging, we have no objections to The Flashpoint Paradox being the choice. It presented a dark and intricate story that was unprecedented in its genre, and its impact on future films in the DC animated universe was significant, highlighting the considerable effort DC invested in its animated world. This is why we fully support this selection.
