Marvel Studios recently released a teaser trailer showcasing upcoming animated and live-action releases that fans can expect in 2024 and 2025. One of the shows that fans are most excited about is ‘Wonder Man.’
The show will focus on Simon Williams an actor and stuntperson who gains superpowers and becomes a superhero known as Wonder Man. It was described as being “Hollywood satire.”
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be starring as Simon Williams aka Wonder Man, with Ben Kingsley, Demetrius Grosse, Ed Harris, Lauren Glazier, and Josh Gad also joining the cast. We don’t know how closely MCU will adapt Simon’s story, but if it turns out to be comic-accurate, fans can prepare for a top-tier romance drama.
That is, if Scarlet Witch is alive in the first place, and several key people involved in Scarlet Witch’s story in the MCU hinted as much in recent times, especially in light of ‘Agatha All Along’ release.
In any case, you’re likely wondering what does Scarlet Witch has to do with Wonder Man? Vision was originally created by Ultron, who used Simon Williams’ brainwave patterns as a template for Vision’s mind.
This meant that Vision had a personality similar to Simon’s, including a latent affection for Wanda, who would eventually become his wife. Vision and Wanda developed a deep, genuine love, and they even had children (albeit through magical means).
Both Vision and Ultron are set to return to the MCU in the upcoming ‘Vision Quest’ TV series. However, keep in mind that the Vision we will be seeing is the White Vision that we’ve met during the events of ‘WandaVision.’
Wonder Man was initially in a state of suspended animation when Vision and Wanda first fell in love. But after Simon was revived, things got complicated because he also developed feelings for Wanda—feelings based on the memories Vision inherited from his brainwave patterns.
Simon had romantic feelings for Wanda and even admitted his love for her on multiple occasions, creating tension between him and Vision. Since Vision’s mind was based on Simon’s brain patterns, Simon felt a certain claim or connection to Wanda, even if Vision was the one married to her.
Vision went through several transformations over the years, including one major storyline where he was dismantled and rebuilt without Simon’s brainwave patterns. This new Vision became colder and more distant, lacking the warmth that Wanda had fallen in love with. This emotional gap made her feelings for Simon even more complicated, as Simon’s warmth and familiarity became a source of comfort.
Wonder Man’s love for Scarlet Witch led him to refuse to help bring Vision back to life. Later, he came to Wanda’s side when she needed him after she brought him back in his ionic form. They eventually had a brief romance, but it didn’t last long.
With time the love triangle became less central to their stories. However, it left a lasting impact on the three characters. Vision and Wanda’s marriage eventually dissolved due to the many hardships and losses they endured, including the loss of their children.
It’s impossible to adapt this love triangle fully since Wonder Man wasn’t connected to Vision’s origin story in the MCU, however, the upcoming ‘Vision Quest’ might see him get involved with White Vision, and with the resurrection of Wanda things do have potential to become, well, complicated.
Even if Scarlet Witch is to be resurrected, it’s likely however that her primary focus would be on locating her sons Billy and Tommy, both of which currently exist in the MCU – reincarnated.
