Valorie Curry Hopes Her “Vocally Anti-Trans and Homophobic” Character – Firecracker – Dies in ‘The Boys’

The fourth season of “The Boys” premiered on June 13, 2024, and concluded on July 18, 2024, with an epic final episode that has fans buzzing. Despite receiving a Certified Fresh rating, the season faced review-bombing from haters and toxic fans due to its political satire. The production team, unfazed by the criticism, openly dismissed such fans, with Kripke advising them to stop watching the show if they didn’t like it.

Recently, the series has been officially declared a major success, thanks in part to several new elements introduced this season. One notable addition is Firecracker, a new supervillain who plays a prominent role in the fourth season.

Firecracker is certainly a layered character with many influences behind her, as we’ve reported. Actress Valorie Curry, who portrays Firecracker, recently shared her thoughts on her “vocally anti-trans and homophobic” character and expressed her hopes for the upcoming final season.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Valorie Curry, who identifies as a lesbian, discussed her experience playing Firecracker, a character that despises everything she stands for in real life. This intriguing contradiction caught the attention of many commentators. Naturally, Curry was asked about her character and how Firecracker’s views influenced her portrayal. Interestingly, she revealed that she didn’t have too many problems with the character. In her own words:

“It sounds so gross to say, but I really connected with her right off the bat. [I am happy to play somebody she finds personally abhorrent, who’s] so vocally anti-trans and homophobic, because it should be somebody from the community who’s getting to make a clown out of her. So there isn’t any ambiguity. The show satirizes so much of what’s happening culturally, whether it’s #MeToo or the Republican Party.” – Source: THR

The irony is clear, but after witnessing Curry’s performance in Season 4, we believe her approach was brilliant, adding an extra layer of depth to the character. Despite portraying Firecracker without issues, Valorie Curry never grew fond of her, as her recent comments confirm:

“I hope she dies. She has it coming from many people. She’s awful. She’s horrible. I hope she dies. I hope it’s not because of the meds, because that seems too easy,” she said. “It should be Sage (Susan Heyward), right? It should be Sage, and then she should survive and have a spinoff. I hope she dies.”- Source: THR

Interestingly, Firecracker is one of the few new supe characters who managed to survive an entire season relatively unscathed, ensuring we will see more of her in Season 5. However, the chances of her surviving the entire series are slim, so it seems likely that Curry’s character will meet her end before the series concludes.
