‘Venom: the Last Dance’ releases in just a few days worldwide. The upcoming film is a sequel to ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ released in 2021 and serves as the fifth entry in SSU and the final installment of the ‘Venom’ trilogy.
Written and directed by Kelly Marcel, it stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and Venom, alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach, and Stephen Graham.
The plot focuses on Brock and Venom as they evade threats from both of their worlds – and possibly Knull who was teased for the movie, with the director revealing he won’t be the main villain. The character will clearly appear in other SSU projects and possibly in the MCU projects, but it’s the end of the road for Eddie as Hardy confirmed he is done with the role.
Now the first social media reactions from early screenings have already appeared online and so far, it’s been mixed with the majority of the reviews gravitating toward positive notes. The movie might not be too sophisticated, but it’s fun and that’s all that counts.
Now, early box office predictions are out and it doesn’t look good. ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ aims to debut with at least $65 million at the box office according to Variety.
This expected figure is significantly lower than the openings of its predecessors—$80 million for 2018’s ‘Venom’ and $90 million for 2021’s ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage,’ which set a pandemic-era record.
The film is projected to earn an additional $85 million internationally, bringing its global total to $150 million. With a production budget of $120 million, excluding marketing costs, the film needs a strong start to pay this off.
If ‘Venom 3’ fails, it’s going to follow up in the steps of ‘Madame Web’ Sony’s latest superhero flop that’s seen disastrous box office results but found a lot of success on Netflix.
