In terms of some of the greatest fictional worlds of all time, Harry Potter and Star Wars rank right at the top because they have great characters and stories. Of course, the most iconic villain in Harry Potter is Lord Voldemort, a powerful dark wizard. Meanwhile, Star Wars has Darth Vader as its most iconic villain due to how compelling his story is. So, in a fight between Voldemort and Darth Vader, which villain would win?

Darth Vader is likely going to win in a fight against Voldemort. While Voldemort’s powers are indeed very formidable and would be enough to kill any person, Vader is physically stronger and is the better fighter of the two. Of course, this should be a closer battle due to Voldemort’s ability to kill in an instant.

The scariest part about Voldemort was always his ability to kill rather quickly, and that was one of the reasons why he was able to terrorize the entire wizarding world. Vader, of course, had the same ability to kill someone without much effort, and that was why he ruled with an iron fist during the height of the Empire’s power. Now, let’s look at how this battle would go and why Vader is stronger than Voldemort.

Physical Abilities

Like almost all of the characters in Harry Potter, Voldemort was never particularly strong in terms of his physical abilities. He was fast due to the use of his magic, as he could move from one place to another in a second. But regarding his raw physical abilities, there wasn’t anything he could do that normal people couldn’t do.

In that regard, Voldemort wasn’t superhuman in terms of his physical capabilities, and that’s why someone stronger than him could still overwhelm him in a close-quarter fight.

Before he turned into a mechanical monster, Darth Vader was one of the quickest and most agile Jedi of all time, as he could quickly defeat opponents without even taking a few seconds to overwhelm them with his lightsaber.

While he became slower and less agile as Darth Vader, he gained insane physical strength, allowing him to carry people with his raw strength. In that regard, the power behind a single strike from Vader’s lightsaber was more than enough to force his opponents into submission.

This isn’t even a debate because Darth Vader is quicker and stronger than Voldemort, who isn’t even faster or stronger than most humans. That’s why the quick advantage goes to Vader, who can blitz Voldemort using his superior speed and strength.

Durability

While he may be an ordinary human being in terms of his physiology, Voldemort found a way to stay alive indefinitely by creating Horcruxes, which were items that stored a portion of his essence. As long as these Horcruxes were around, Voldemort couldn’t be killed.

The kicker is that the Horcruxes he created could only be destroyed by special items that have magical properties or are connected to Voldemort. That’s why Voldemort was said to be almost immortal.

Due to his immense anger and desire to put everything in the galaxy under his control, Darth Vader was a durable cyborg-like man who has survived many near-death situations.

In the Duel on Mustafar, he survived getting his limbs sliced off and getting his entire body burned by the lava of a volcanic planet. In that regard, his hatred can keep him alive for as long as he has a reason to stay alive. But his greatest weakness was the fact that he needed to stay in a life-support suit that sustained his basic functions.

Even if Darth Vader can defeat Voldemort quickly, he has to find his Horcruxes and destroy them as well. That is why the durability feats go to Voldemort.

Fighting Skills

While Voldemort was a skilled sorcerer and could outduel any wizard in a magical battle, he wasn’t exceptionally skilled in terms of his ability to fight outside of the use of his magic.

We haven’t seen Voldemort fighting well enough using his fists or any other weapon other than his wand. Of course, there’s a good chance that he may be skilled as a fighter, but that’s not something that we can really be sure of because we haven’t seen him fighting someone without the use of magic.

If one thing allowed Vader to stand out, he could fight using a lightsaber. Ever since he was a Jedi, he was already one of the strongest lightsaber combatants in the galaxy. His style changed a bit after he turned into Darth Vader, but he was still a ferocious fighter that could defeat almost all of the other swordsmen in the galaxy in single combat.

In fact, only a few Jedi could actually give Darth Vader a tough time in a lightsaber duel due to the fact that he was incredibly skilled as a swordsman.

Let’s be real here because Vader would instantly defeat Voldemort in a fight without the use of their powers. Even without a lightsaber, Vader would still be skilled enough to take down Voldemort.

Powers and Abilities

Arguably the greatest wizard in the history of the Harry Potter world, Voldemort could do it all when it comes to his spells. He can conjure up flames and other powerful elements without exerting much effort into doing so. Voldemort has also shown the ability to fly, teleport, and perform a lot of impressive feats using a wide array of magical spells. But his greatest weapon has always been the Killing Curse, which could kill anyone with a single strike.

Darth Vader was born with the highest potential in the Force and was supposed to be the greatest Force wielder in the history of the galaxy. The fact that he lost his limbs and got severely injured prevented him from reaching his full potential, but he was still incredibly strong in the use of the Force because he could ragdoll people using telekinesis and even choke them from a remote location.

Vader has even displayed the ability to block blaster bolts and lightsaber strikes using the Force. But the most impressive part about his abilities in the Force was shown in the fact that he was able to pull down an entire shuttle from the air.

Even though we know that Voldemort’s magic gives him the edge in terms of his versatility and ability to kill, let’s not forget that Darth Vader can use the Force in a split second and can choke Voldemort before the dark wizard can even chant his spells. Of course, there’s the fact that Vader can block blaster bolts and lightsabers with the Force, which means that he could probably do the same regarding Voldemort’s spells.

Intelligence

Arguably the scariest part about Voldemort was his incredible intelligence, as he was a genius tactician and a master manipulator that could manipulate some of the strongest dark wizards in the world to do his bidding.

His intelligence allowed him to easily figure out what was happening on the battlefield and counter with his own tactics. Voldemort was also often several steps ahead of his opponents and could plan ahead to ensure the battle would end in his favor.

He wasn’t always known for his intelligence, but Darth Vader was a master tactician that had the experience and training of a seasoned commander. Vader was known for unorthodox and risky strategies that won the Republic and the Empire a lot of different battles against extremely intelligent commanders. In that regard, Vader knew what needed to be done when it came to his ability to command. But he often allowed his hubris and emotions to get the better of him.

Even though Vader was a seasoned strategist and commander, Voldemort was a manipulator with the same ability to manipulate people and events as Palpatine. Of course, Vader could never outsmart Palpatine, and that’s why Voldemort is smarter than him.

Voldemort vs. Darth Vader: Which Villain Would Win?

Overall, this should be a tough battle if the conditions were right, especially because Voldemort’s magical abilities and intelligence can change the entire flow of a fight. On top of that, Voldemort is incredibly difficult to kill because he is almost immortal. But Vader is simply a powerhouse with everything he needs to overwhelm Voldemort in a fight as he is stronger, faster, and much more skilled. The only real problem he has to deal with is the locations of Voldemort’s Horcruxes.
