‘Waller’ Series Gearing Up: Casting Reportedly Underway, Filming Could Begin This Year—Checkmate Elements Reportedly Included

‘Waller’ was announced in 2022 as a spinoff of ‘Peacemaker,’ with Viola Davis reprising her role as the titular character. Unlike ‘Peacemaker,’ this series won’t be a comedy, as Amanda Waller is a much more serious and ruthless figure. The tone of the show will reflect her character.
Originally slated for a 2024 release, ‘Waller’ now faces an uncertain timeline, with James Gunn shifting his focus to other DCU projects.
Back in December, Gunn provided us with the last update on the show, when he mentioned that the scrips for ‘Waller,’ ‘Booster Gold’ and ‘The Brave and the Bold’ are “not quite where he wants them to be yet.”
Now Daniel Richtman, a notable industry insider is back with yet another rumor, according to him the series is already in the early stages of production, with casting underway. Richtman also claims that the show will involve at least some elements of Checkmate, a covert intelligence organization in the DC comics that often deals with espionage and black ops.
More than a week ago, industry insider Jeff Sneider reported that King Faraday, one of DC’s top secret agents, could be part of the show.
Waller’s latest appearance was in ‘Creature Commandos,’ the first installment in the newly rebooted DCU, so we look forward to more from the character.
