DC fans are certainly preoccupied these days with discussing the most recent DC movie ‘The Flash.’ And therefore, there are still plenty of questions on what the future of live-action projects based on DC characters will look like, especially after this latest movie which serves as the breaking point between DCEU and its soft-reboot and eventual replacement DCU.

However, we must not forget the animated DC projects that are currently in development, and there’s a solid number of them to anticipate. As we know, next year we’ll watch ‘Creature Commandos,’ an animated series about the titular team of superheroes that fought against the Axis powers in World War 2, and there’s also the fourth season of ‘Harley Quinn’ to anticipate on Max. However, not all animated projects based on DC properties are set to air on WB’s official streamer.

‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ is allegedly everything Bruce Timm wanted to do!

Batman: Caped Crusader’ is an upcoming animated series that was previously in development for HBOMax, until it was ultimately scrapped. However, Amazon Prime Video decided to save the series and immediately ordered two seasons. Bruce Timm, who previously worked on the legendary ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ and numerous other animated DC projects, is developing this upcoming series with J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves.

Peter Girardi, who works as the executive in charge of production at Warner Bros. Animation, recently spoke at Annecy International Animation Festival. He described the upcoming series ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ as everything Bruce Timm wanted to do on the original ‘Batman: The Animated Series,’ but he wasn’t allowed to do it because the series was airing on the kids’ channel. According to Variety’s report, the series will be ultra-noir, with a “brooding tone and a sense of the near-psychotic in characters’ psychology.”

“It’s everything that Bruce Timm wanted to do in the original series, but because it ran on a kid’s channel, he wasn’t able to do it. So this definitely skews older. It’s more of his complete vision.”

The original ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ aired from September 1992 to September 1995. The series received universal acclaim for its tone, writing, and voice-acting. Even today, it’s still considered one of the best superhero animated projects ever created. The series kicked off DC Animated Universe, which later spawned spin-off movies and TV shows, sequel TV shows, and crossover TV shows. The last DCAU series, ‘Justice League Unlimited’ finished its airing in May 2006.

The premiere date for the upcoming series ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ is still TBA, but from what we’ve heard so far, this project is really promising to be a worthwhile successor to the legendary ‘Batman: The Animated Series.’ There’s literally no other reason needed to look forward to it, especially with Bruce Timm able to fulfill his vision.

Are you looking forward to ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’? Do you think it will live up to the name of the original series? Let us know in the comments.
