Warner Bros. is going all out with its marketing campaign for the upcoming Superman film, and it’s taking a page from its massive success with Barbie. At the DC Studios press conference, co-chiefs Peter Safran and James Gunn discussed how the company is gearing up for a major promotional push, despite the surprising departure of Josh Goldstine, Warner Bros. Global Marketing head.

After the highly successful Superman trailer hit 250 million views, the studio is preparing a wide-reaching campaign, aiming to generate excitement similar to the way Barbie was marketed across multiple platforms, from Food Network to HGTV.

The strategy for Barbie helped the movie become the studio’s highest-grossing film ever, making $1.44 billion worldwide.

Safran and Gunn emphasized that even with the changes in the marketing team, they are closely working with the new heads of marketing, Christian Davin, Dana Nussbaum, and John Stanford, to ensure the campaign is handled expertly.

Well, I would say that it was a decision that Mike and Pam felt was the best. But for us, we work incredibly close with [new marketing heads] Christian [Davin], Dana [Nussbaum] and John Stanford who are all incredibly talented. We’ve been through the mill enough times making these big movies, and distributing and marketing these movies, that we feel that we’re on top of every element of it, truly every element.

Gunn is directly involved with the creative side of the project, including the trailer, and they both assured that the whole team is fully committed to making sure audiences know about the film.

The studio is determined to leave no stone unturned in promoting Superman, with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav fully backing the project. The campaign is set to be as large and visible as the efforts seen with Barbie, Beetlejuice, Wonka, and Kong, with Zaslav rallying the company behind the film.

Safran mentioned that they have full support from Zaslav and are confident that Superman will perform well, possibly achieving the best opening of 2025 at the domestic box office when it releases on July 11.
