Gravik, the main enemy of the ‘Secret Invasion’ storyline in the MCU, is currently the biggest threat to the planet because we know that he is cooking up something that will make it easier for him to take over the entire planet. However, we know that he has been around for a long time and has been plotting his invasion for quite some time already. We also know that the Skrulls were on Earth during the events of ‘Captain Marvel.’ So, does that mean that Gravik also was in ‘Captain Marvel’?

Gravik couldn’t have been in the ‘Captain Marvel’ movie because it took place in 1995, whereas Gravik only came to Earth in 1997. Back then, Gravik was still just a boy who could escape the destruction of Skrullos by piloting a ship all on his own before arriving on Earth as a refugee.

Of course, Gravik wasn’t there when Talos and the other Skrulls had to fight the Kree during the events of ‘Captain Marvel,’ and that’s why he isn’t really aware of the reasons why Talos was willing to trust his life to Nick Fury and Carol Danvers. Instead, he only cares about taking over a planet that he believes Fury and Danvers owe the Skrulls. Now, let’s look at this topic in greater detail to understand where Gravik was then.

‘Captain Marvel’ took place in 1995

One of the most compelling storylines in the entire MCU can trace its roots to the events that took place in 1995 when Nick Fury was still just starting out as an agent of SHIELD and was yet to reach the height of his influence.

Back then, Carol Danvers was working for the Kree in their quest to destroy all of the Skrulls scattered all over the universe, as the Kree and the Skrulls had a long-standing hatred for one another.

Of course, we also learned that Danvers ended up getting captured by Talos and his Skrulls and was taken to Earth during the events of the ‘Captain Marvel’ movie. It was during that time that Danvers met Fury.

And during the events of the ‘Captain Marvel’ film, Danvers and Fury learned that the Skrulls that were on Earth weren’t all that bad and were just trying to get away from the Kree that were hunting them down.

In that regard, Talos proved to be a nice person willing to work with Danvers and Fury to defeat the Kree who wanted to control Captain Marvel’s powers and use them against the innocent Skrulls just trying to live peaceful lives.

During that movie, Fury and Talos formed a long friendship that allowed them to have a close relationship built on trust and mutual cooperation. And Danvers promised to find a new home that the Skrulls could occupy.

That means that the events of ‘Secret Invasion’ can trace its roots to the ‘Captain Marvel’ movie because it was in the events of this film that the Skrulls were allowed to hide on Earth while Fury and Danvers were still looking for a home for them. And three decades have passed since the events of ‘Captain Marvel,’ we all know that the Skrulls are still on Earth, waiting for Fury to fulfill his promise.

The unkept promise made Gravik realize that he needed to take action on the part of the Skrulls as he was no longer willing to leave his fate in the hands of another person. That was the reason why Gravik decided to rebel and start a secret revolution that aimed to destroy the planet from the inside and make it easier for the Skrulls to take over Earth, especially now that they had the means of fighting off the strongest heroes that the planet has to offer.

Gravik arrived on Earth as a boy in 1997

Even though the foundations of the relationship between Nick Fury and Talos were formed during the events of ‘Captain Marvel’ in 1995, it was in a flashback scene in ‘Secret Invasion’ where we saw Fury formalizing his pact with the Skrulls. This happened in 1997 when Talos was able to call some of the other Skrulls hiding on different planets around the universe to come to Earth, where it was safer for them to hide.

During that meeting with the Skrulls, a young Gravik was introduced to Nick Fury. He was introduced as a young boy that had just arrived on Earth after he lost his parents in the final battle between the Skrulls and the Kree just before their home planet was destroyed. Gravik piloted a ship all on his own, and that was when the Skrulls saw that he was a talented young Skrull that could contribute to the Skrulls on Earth.

Gravik, however, was quite apprehensive when Fury tried to greet him in a friendly way. It was clear that he wasn’t willing to trust anyone immediately, especially after the traumatizing events he experienced during his childhood. But after Fury assured him that he understood what he went through and that things would be alright, that was when Gravik warmed up to Fury.

Eventually, Fury formed a pact with the Skrulls that required them to work for him using their shapeshifting powers to keep the planet safe. In exchange, Fury and Danvers would work hard to find a new home for the Skrulls. And Gravik, who had just arrived, was there when Fury made his promise.

That means that Gravik wasn’t around during the events of ‘Captain Marvel’ as he had just arrived on Earth in 1997, two years after Fury and Talos met for the first time. Of course, he was still just a young boy when he arrived on Earth. As such, he couldn’t have been involved in the events during the ‘Captain Marvel’ movie.
