Was Qimir More Powerful Than Palpatine? A Comparison of the Sith Lords Uncovers an Intriguing Detail

In this report, we turn our attention to The Acolyte and its intriguing main villain, Qimir, who served as a predecessor to Palpatine, being Darth Plagueis’ apprentice before the future Emperor. Although Qimir didn’t get much screen time, he was still impactful enough to warrant a deeper discussion.

Specifically, as the title suggests, when comparing Plagueis’ two apprentices, we uncover an interesting detail that might indicate Qimir could actually be more powerful than Palpatine. Could this be true? Find out in our analysis below!

To put your mind at ease before diving into the details—no, Qimir is not stronger than Palpatine. In fact, Palpatine is arguably the most powerful Sith Lord in history, with a combination of skill and cunning that likely surpasses all who came before him. He outmaneuvered Darth Plagueis and kept Darth Vader under control, ensuring that the latter never truly surpassed him. Palpatine embodies pure evil, and in that regard, Qimir wouldn’t have stood a chance against him.

However, when we compare the two, we notice that Qimir did something Palpatine never dared to do—he faced a group of eight Jedi all by himself and emerged victorious. He was so confident in his abilities that he didn’t hesitate to take them on.

Sure, you could argue that some of them were Padawans and that the overall power of the Jedi was not overwhelming, but still—eight Jedi at once? This feat certainly speaks to Qimir’s skill, something Palpatine never attempted. In Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine fought three Jedi simultaneously and nearly lost to Mace Windu, and he faced Yoda alone.

Palpatine never wanted to confront that many Jedi at once, which raises an interesting question—was Palpatine afraid of doing so, or was Qimir simply more skilled at the time?

In our view, the answer to this question lies in two key points. First, the Jedi were significantly more powerful during Palpatine’s era, and he was fully aware that he wouldn’t have been able to face eight Jedi Council members alone. In fact, he came close to losing against both Windu and Yoda. Similarly, Qimir wouldn’t have lasted long against someone like Windu or Yoda.

Second, there’s Palpatine’s intellect. Palpatine was the most cunning Sith Lord we’ve seen, often outsmarting his enemies rather than simply overpowering them. In this regard, he wasn’t weaker than Qimir—just more strategic.

Palpatine could have handled the same eight Jedi that Qimir fought, and likely with greater ease. However, he never faced such a challenge because—unlike Qimir—he was wise enough not to engage in such a risky battle.
