We Can Already Guess ‘Spider-Man 4’ Title Based on a Heartbreaking Story It Might Continue

Share:

‘Spider-Man 4’ has been confirmed last year. Not much is known about the movie at this point except that Holland and Zendaya will be reprising their roles, and that Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct.

Recently, Ryan Meinerding revealed that with the upcoming installment Spider-Man’s second trilogy is about to start, he also confirmed that the previous trilogy’s official title was “Home,” going by the common motive in all installments.

Now CBR recently posted an interesting theory that makes all the sense in the world. The theory claims that we really do already know what the title of the next installment will be, based on the comic story that ‘No Way Home’ loosely adapted.

As you know by now, ‘No Way Home’ sees Peter Parker erasing the memories of pretty much every single person in existence via Strange’s spell, including MJ, his love interest. This is loosely based on ‘Spider-Man: One More Day’ storyline, written by J. Michael Straczynski and illustrated by Joe Quesada.

During the storyline, Aunt May is shot and is on the verge of dying. Peter seeks help from several sources, including superheroes but no one can seemingly help her.

In desperation, Peter even asks for help from Mephisto. Mephisto promises to help but Peter has to give away something he holds dear. Peter realizes that MJ is what he holds dear, and his marriage to her.

Mephisto’s deal meant erasing Peter and Mary Jane Watson’s marriage and their shared memories of each other. Essentially, the deal would alter reality so that they never married and never experienced their life together as a couple.

Even though Peter initially declined the deal, he realized that Aunt May was more important than his own happiness and his marriage to MJ, and both he and MJ accepted the deal with MJ adding her own secret terms to the deal.

But, how does this connect to the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4’ title? Well as CBR pointed out, ‘One More Day’ has a follow-up titled ‘Brand New Day.’ Following the events of ‘One More Day,’ the storyline acts as a reboot of Peter Parker’s life.

With his marriage to Mary Jane Watson erased from continuity, Peter is thrust into a new phase where he is single and dealing with the aftermath of his choices.

It’s very clear that ‘Spider-Man 4’ will have to loosely adapt this. Peter is currently in the MCU all alone and has all the freedom to choose how to live from now on. This is both a heartbreaking scenario, but also an exciting scenario, as was the case in the comics.

The only difference is that in ‘Brand New Day’ Peter had no idea what he lost while in the MCU he is aware. This is why ‘Brand New Day’ would be the perfect title for the 4th movie, and it might offer the MCU to distance the new trilogy from the “Home” theme, perhaps adopting a new motive.
