The highly anticipated Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again is set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the MCU’s television landscape, marking a pivotal moment in its development. Why? Because Daredevil originally aired as a Netflix series under the Marvel TV banner, and now, both Daredevil and other characters from that era are being integrated into the MCU.

This raises an intriguing question: How will the MCU handle these characters, especially considering the darker tone of the Netflix series, which differed significantly from the typical MCU style? This difference could be a challenge for fans of the original show.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the cast of Daredevil: Born Again discussed the connection between the new series and the Netflix original. From what they’ve shared, it looks like we’re in for a serious wave of nostalgia.

During D23, several cast members, including Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Deborah Ann Woll, and Elden Henson, sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again, slated for a 2025 release. One of the key topics was how the new series would connect to the original Netflix show. Charlie Cox hinted that fans can expect a powerful wave of nostalgia:

“Deborah and I had a scene where we find an old box — am I allowed to say that? I think I can say that. We had a scene where we were looking through a box and we find stuff from the past, and it was real stuff from the past. It was stuff from the old [show]. It was like a photo frame we used on a set eight years ago and we were looking at it together — well, I wasn’t looking at it. But we were reminiscing over it, and it was sweet. It was kind of a little bit of life imitating art.”

Woll chimed in, saying, “There were definitely a lot of moments where no acting was required—pure nostalgia.” D’Onofrio also shared his thoughts:

“There are storylines that reach back to the original series. Where our characters are coming from, where we are, and where we’re going, some of those threads lead back.”

Ultimately, Charlie Cox explained that with Daredevil: Born Again, the goal is to draw in new viewers while also reconnecting with longtime fans. This approach is reflected in the structure of the new series:

“It’s a really tough job so I’m so impressed with what the writers managed to do by allowing us to keep that history but also present it in a way where it isn’t alienating. We’d also like to encourage people to go back and watch the original three seasons.”
