Laddio made his debut in Episode 6 of Season 4 of The Boys as a peculiar and somewhat macabre sidekick, reflecting more on his “master,” Tek Knight, and the show’s creators than on himself. So, who exactly is he?

Though his real name remains undisclosed, Laddio’s origin involves his parents consenting to Vought injecting him with Compound V at birth, thus granting him superhuman abilities. His powers primarily include exceptional strength and durability, alongside heightened hearing abilities that distinguish him from other superheroes.

Laddio was personally selected by Tek Knight to serve as his sidekick, but instead of a heroic partnership, Laddio endured severe mistreatment, becoming Tek Knight’s unwilling sexual captive. Eventually, Laddio deceived Tek Knight, prompting his imprisonment in the Tek Cave, where he was confined in a latex bodysuit and silenced.

When Hughie discovers and frees Laddio, the former sidekick joins forces with The Boys to plot revenge against Tek Knight, successfully executing their plan.

Laddio’s character concept draws inspiration from the Batman-Robin dynamic in DC Comics. Tek Knight mirrors Batman, with Laddio as his Robin, albeit in a disturbing and unconventional interpretation. This narrative explores themes suggested in early publications that hinted at a homoerotic undertone in Batman and Robin’s relationship.
