‘Wicked’ & ‘Emilia Pérez’ Dominate 2025 Critics Choice Awards – Full Winners List!

The 30th annual Critics Choice Awards took place on Friday, February 7, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Three films—Wicked, Emilia Pérez, and The Substance—each won three awards. However, none of them claimed the top honor of Best Picture, which went to Anora. Interestingly, Anora didn’t win in any other category that night.

Jon M. Chu, director of Wicked, won Best Director, making him only the third filmmaker to win the award for a musical. The others were Baz Luhrmann for Moulin Rouge! and Damien Chazelle for La La Land. Chazelle later won an Oscar for directing La La Land, but Luhrmann and Chu didn’t even receive Oscar nominations for their films. Wicked also took home awards for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.

Emilia Pérez won Best Foreign Language Film, Best Original Song for “El Mal”, and Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña. Saldaña was also the lead singer on “El Mal”.

Meanwhile, The Substance won Best Actress for Demi Moore, as well as Best Original Screenplay and Best Hair & Makeup.

Other multiple-award winners included A Real Pain, Conclave, and Challengers, each earning two prizes.

“El Mal”, written by Clément Ducol, Camille, and Jacques Audiard, also won Best Original Song at the Golden Globes on January 5. With these two major wins, it’s now a strong contender for the same category at the Oscars.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won Best Original Score for Challengers, just as they did at the Golden Globes. However, their score won’t be in the running for an Oscar since it wasn’t even nominated. This makes it one of only three film scores to win both the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award but miss out on an Oscar nomination—the other two were The Aviator (by Howard Shore) and First Man (by Justin Hurwitz).

Chelsea Handler hosted the Critics Choice Awards for the third time. The ceremony was originally scheduled for January 12 but was postponed twice due to severe wildfires in Los Angeles. The three-hour show, covering both film and TV awards, aired live on E! at 7 p.m. ET/PT. It will be available to stream on Peacock the next day.
