Ever since Disney bought the rights to the Star Wars franchise, the canon cinematic universe has been expanded to include numerous television series, now in live-action format (not just animated). And since ‘The Mandalorian’ was a global hit, Disney continued producing more and more Star Wars-related content, and the most recent addition to this list is the mini-series ‘Ahsoka,’ which is focused on the titular former Jedi, Ahsoka Tano, who was once an apprentice of Anakin Skywalker and was a popular character introduced in the animated series focused on the period before the downfall of the Galactic Republic.

‘Ahsoka’ is a continuation of ‘Rebels,’ and the series is still ongoing, with both fans and critics quite satisfied with what Disney did with the characters and the story. This, of course, raises the question of the series’ future, and in this article, we will tell you whether you can expect a second season of ‘Ahsoka’ and when that season could happen.

A second season of Ahsoka has not been confirmed yet, but rumors claim that it is in the works

‘Ahsoka’ premiered on Disney+ on August 22, 2023, and will end on October 3, 2023, after eight episodes. This mini-series follows Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, whose live-action iteration has been introduced in ‘The Mandalorian,’ as she investigates a new, emerging threat in the Galaxy not long after the fall of the Galactic Empire.

The series serves, in a way, as a continuation of ‘Rebels’ and has introduced us to the live-action versions of numerous characters, including Sabrine Wren (played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ezra Bridger (played by Eman Esfandi), and the villain Grand Admiral Thrawn (played by Lars Mikkelsen). Now, seeing how the series has found its own path and has finally brought many new characters to the screen, it makes a lot of sense that fans want to know if there will be more seasons of the series.

Now, as far as the official status is concerned, the future of ‘Ahsoka’ is unknown, as there has been no news about its renewal status, and it might be some time before we get anything official due to the ongoing strike that has hit the entertainment industry, seeing many projects – both ongoing and future ones – delayed. Now, the strike probably won’t directly influence ‘Ahsoka’s’ future, but it will certainly influence the timeline.

‘Ahsoka’ has a lot of sequel potential, we think. The series has started off strongly, with viewership ratings being quite high, while both critics and fans are in agreement that the series has done justice to the legendary titular character, as well as her story and her role in the larger Star Wars universe. On top of that, the series is exploring a narrative territory that gives ample opportunity for more similar stories, especially since more characters have been introduced, and there is a lot of potential in that aspect as well.

It is great that ‘Ahsoka’ has not simply adapted stories that have already been written but have successfully explored new territory. From that perspective, we can confirm that the series has the potential to continue in the same manner and that the pacing is also executed so that it allows for more stories without the fear of them being too much for the fans to handle. This is why Star Wars shows function well generally because the great storytelling and pacing allow for the evolution of a world that has the potential to evolve.

So, having said that what is the current status of the series? As we’ve said, officially, the series has not been renewed for a second season, but that makes a lot of sense, seeing how the series is still ongoing, as well as the strike, so it is highly unlikely that we’ll get an update soon. Disney+ might reveal more information after the final episode of this season, but we don’t know if that will happen (‘Kenobi’ is also on track for renewal, according to rumors, but there has been no news since).

As for the crew, they are all excited about the prospect of a renewal, and Rosario Dawson, the star of the series, has expressed her hope that the series will be continued, but she has stressed one important condition:

“I really, really hope the fans love it. That means A) we get to do more and B) we’ve honored the legacy of this character and this journey, and I know that’s what we intended to do.”

So, as Dawson said, if the fans are satisfied – and so far, they seem to be, very much so – Disney is likely going to greenlight a new season, so we hope that the positive fan reactions continue until the end of this season, which will probably motivate Disney to renew the show.

Of course, the future of the series will depend on the strike in terms of the timeline, as a second season might get delayed because of the strike, but once that is settled, we are quite certain that the series will be a top priority for Disney. In fact, according to insider Daniel RPK (as confirmed by several sources), Disney has not only green-lit a second season of ‘Ahsoka’ already, but they had started working on it before the strike halted everything.

Of course, this is just a rumor at this time, and until Disney provides us with an official confirmation, there is little we can do, but this rumor is certainly encouraging, and we hope that it turns out to be true.
