Will Arnett’s ‘Super Team Canada’ Animated Comedy Premieres Amid U.S.-Canada Trade Dispute

Will Arnett’s new animated superhero comedy, Super Team Canada, is set to premiere on May 16 on the Canadian streaming service Crave. The show arrives at a time when tensions between the U.S. and Canada are rising due to a trade conflict.
The series follows six Canadian superheroes as they try to save the world from giant evil robots, a jobless octopus, and an overly clingy hardware store clerk. The characters are not the most famous heroes, but when the world’s more well-known protectors are trapped or defeated, this unlikely group must step up.
Arnett voices Breakaway, a former minor league hockey player who fights crime using his skates, hockey stick, and special pucks. Other cast members include Cobie Smulders as Niagara Falls, Kevin McDonald as the Canadian prime minister, and Charles Demers as Poutine, a French Canadian crime fighter.
The show also features Brian Drummond, Ceara Morgana, Veena Sood, and guest star Jay Baruchel.
Super Team Canada is produced by Arnett’s Electric Avenue and Thunderbird Entertainment’s Atomic Cartoons. The writing team includes Emmy winners Robert Cohen and Joel H. Cohen (The Big Bang Theory), while legendary Canadian musician Bryan Adams wrote and performed the theme song.
“With more action, heart, and hilarity than a Fredericton bonspiel, Super Team Canada follows six lesser-known and underrated Canadian superheroes, tasked with saving the world from giant evil robots, an unemployed octopus, and a seriously needy hardware store clerk.
When the world’s other heroes are trapped and killed, these wanna-be benchwarmers become Earth’s last and most maple-syrup-powered hope,” the producers said in a statement.
The 10-episode series will debut with two episodes on May 16, with new episodes releasing every Friday.
The show’s premiere coincides with a growing trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada. Recently, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods, with further tariffs on all Canadian imports expected to take effect on April 2.
He also sparked controversy by suggesting that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state, fueling national pride and political debate in Canada.
In response, Canada has threatened its own trade measures, and new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to call an early election, possibly in late April or early May.
