Shawn Levy Wanted a Wolverine Variant That Would Absolutely “Maul” Deadpool

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was released over a week ago, and the movie is smashing box-office records while being a critical success. The movie marked Wolverine’s and Deadpool’s foray into the MCU but also the return of legacy Marvel characters such as Garner’s Elektra, Snipes’ Blade, and Evans’ Human Torch.
The movie also featured a lot of Wolverine and Deadpool variants. In one scene you can see Deadpool hopping from one universe to another in the search for THE Wolverine that will save his reality. The sequence featured notable cameos such as Old Man Logan, Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, comic-accurate Wolverine, and Cavillerine. However, one universe that was cut from the montage had a secret connection to Wolverine’s history and is also featured in the comics.
Shawn Levy, the movie’s director recently sat down with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz and explained that one of his preferred “variants” did not make it to the movie. Levy explained that the scene would include an actual Wolverine who would proceed to maul Deadpool:
Number six and seven was an actual Wolverine. We really, really wanted an actual Wolverine, the animal, and then he would maul Deadpool. But, we came up with that idea too late to do a convincing digital wolverine, so that one is in my back pocket should I need one for a sequel.
The reactions to Wolverine variants were overwhelmingly positive, the fans took a liking to “Short King” Wolverine and Cavillerine the most, and some fans expressed disappointment that Danny DeVito’s Wolverine was not featured, considering that it’s been a meme for a few years now at this point.
In any case, it seems that Levy already has ideas for a sequel, and we truly hope that the movie does get a sequel, it doesn’t have to have a plot at all, just a long reel of hilarious variants.
