Wolverine’s New Enemy Is Officially Marvel’s Oldest Villain

Wolverine #7 is out and the new comic book by Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo changes the Marvel canon in a very interesting way. It’s not a change per se, but rather a change in perception, as a well-known element of the lore now has to be observed in a very different light.

This, in turn, also means that Marvel has just revealed its oldest villain to-date, a very unlikely one, but also one that comes before the major deities that have been introduced in Marvel’s lore. Who is it? Well, we are going to dive into that one shortly!

Wolverine #7 pits Wolverine against one of his old enemies, Romulus, who has been revived and is now a major threat, as you might have expected. But there is a catch, as Romulus is much stronger than before, which ups the ante completely.

Namely, as it turns out, Romulus is now infused with adamantine, one of Marvel’s most important metals. But it turns out that adamantine doesn’t just give Romulus a power-up: the metal has a very interesting history of its own, as the villain reveals.

As explained in the series, adamantine is actually the “primordial spirit of metal itself,” and, as it turns out, it is a standalone villainous entity that aims to take control of the whole universe. This makes adamantine the oldest Marvel villain known, as it predates even the gods, as it turns out.

How did this battle play out and what implications is this going to have? Well, the comic book is out now so we would prefer it if you checked the story for yourselves, as we’re not going to spoil that much!
