‘X-Men ’97’ was an unexpected hit for Marvel Studios. Following a series of flops in 2023 the studio really needed something to restore at least some of the faith that the franchise could be salvaged from a series of bad stories.

In comes ‘X-Men ’97’ a revival of the old ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’ Fans were wonderfully surprised when the showrunners managed to keep faithful to the old show with new and modern twists.

Ever since the first episode aired the show has had consistently high ratings and it keeps on getting better. It was renewed for a second season even before the first season premiered with talks of a third season currently being in development.

According to Daniel Richtman, that trend is bound to continue since the studio is currently happy with how the show is performing and they are planning on ordering as many seasons as possible. Until the fans are happy and the viewership is high, you can count on new content being released.

Some fans however did not react well to this news, being afraid that the show won’t maintain its high-quality storytelling in the absence of Beau DeMayo, who has been fired just days away from the first season’s premiere. The reasons for firing are still unknown, but it has to be something quite serious if they were willing to let go of one of their best writers currently.

Ever since Episode 5 of the show aired, fans have been campaigning to have DeMayo reinstated. There’s also talk that the studio plans to revive other old shows as well, most notably the Spider-Man animated show.

This looks likely as he was featured in the last episode of the show and it was confirmed that the two shows take place within the same universe.
