Zack Snyder Ditches His DCEU Movies as He Reveals Which Comic Book Adaptation Was His Favorite

Zack Synder is currently under the media spotlight due to his Norse mythology adaptation ‘Twilight of the Gods,’ being released. So far the first reactions to the projects are good, something that, following the release of ‘Rebel Moon,’ was rare for the director.

While you either love or hate Snyder, you have to admit that his past attempt to form a cinematic universe around DC characters was ambitious and solid. However, it was also ill-fated due to deviating too much from the general tone of comics and well, from the comics in general.

Now when it comes to the majority of Snyder fans, their favorite projects are likely related to the DCEU. Recently, however, the director had the opportunity to sit down with Comicbook while presenting his latest anime project, and he revealed what his favorite comic adaptation is:

Well, weirdly, I kind of look at it in two ways. Like one I think, of course, Man of Steel, BvS, Justice League, is its own thing…. I don’t know necessarily, whether it’s a comic book movie in the classic sense, for me. But I can understand how people would say that because those are comic book characters and whatever, but, that’s just based on ideas that I had about comic book characters,

I would have to say Watchmen, probably for me, just like the process of adaptation from comic book to movie design, all the things as we went from comic books to movie. I think Watchmen is like the cleanest, and kind of most satisfying, transition to adapted material.

Released in 2009, Snyder’s ‘Watchmen’ was his second adaptation of a DC property, following the successful ‘300.’ While ‘Watchmen’ didn’t achieve the same financial success, it became a cult classic and is generally regarded as one of Snyder’s best works!

Many praised Snyder’s visual storytelling and faithfulness to the graphic novel’s aesthetic, highlighting the film’s striking imagery and use of color. Aside from that, some fans praised Snyder’s loyalty to the source material, but others felt that the film struggled to condense the graphic novel’s story which resulted in pacing issues.
