Deadpool & Wolverine, featuring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, was one of the year’s most eagerly anticipated films. It marks the long-awaited collaboration between these two iconic characters.

The movie is performing exceptionally well in theaters globally, with fans still discovering and counting the numerous Easter eggs embedded throughout. Among these are several cameo appearances from classic Marvel characters and fan-castings, including a notable one involving Henry Cavill.

As you might recall, Henry Cavill was dismissed from his role as Superman in the DCEU. Despite this, MCU fans have been campaigning for him to join the Marvel universe. While many have hoped for him to play Captain Britain, Cavill’s MCU debut came in a different role altogether. His former director, Zack Snyder, has now shared his thoughts on Cavill’s cameo.

We recently reported that Henry Cavill was rumored to appear as a variant of Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine. Fans who have seen the movie can now confirm that Cavill does indeed portray an alternate version of Wolverine in the MCU. While this cameo is unlikely to signal a long-term role for Cavill as Wolverine, it serves as a nod to fans and demonstrates that Marvel is attentive to their wishes, even if just a little.

Aside from the fans, another key figure in Cavill’s career has reacted to this cameo. Zack Snyder, the former DCEU head who cast Cavill as Superman and has consistently supported him, shared his thoughts on the appearance. Here’s what the director had to say about Cavill’s role:

I assume you’ve heard about Henry Cavill’s recent cameo as Wolverine?

I haven’t seen it yet, but I did hear about it. Sounds fun.

Deadpool quipped that Marvel will treat Henry better than the studio down the street.

(Snyder grins.)

That mostly speaks to bygone regimes and five or six years of Henry’s prime being wasted in limbo. Of the many related sources of frustration, is that perfect casting being sidelined right near the top?

Well, Henry is an amazing Superman to me, obviously. I hired him. I wanted him to be Superman. So any coins left on the table are unfortunate, and in that way, it would be great to have more Henry. I always think you could have more Henry.
