Zendaya Reportedly Refuses To Return to ‘Spider-Man 4’ for a Cameo Role

‘Spider-Man 4’ is the next installment in Spider-Man’s movie series in the MCU. The movie was confirmed to be in development last year and not much is known except that the movie will likely be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and that Holland and Zendaya are likely to renew their contracts with the studio returning to their respective roles.

And speaking about the roles, fans have wondered since the release of ‘No Way Home’ whether it makes sense for Zendaya to return at all.

As you are likely aware, at the end of ‘No Way Home’ Strange’s spell works and everyone collectively forgets all about Spider-Man, including MJ. At the end of the movie, Peter Parker has the opportunity to re-introduce himself to MJ, but chooses against it, obviously thinking that the lives of his friends will be less complicated once he is out of the picture.

Now obviously, Zendaya’s role can be written in as bigger if the writers choose in the upcoming installment, but it really doesn’t make sense to have her in the movie if she doesn’t remember Peter. However, industry insider Alex Perez recently cleared up that Zendaya will not sign on for a cameo role:

Michael: Following changes to SM4’s story, will MJ’s role in SM4 be significant or just an extended cameo? It would be a dumb move to bench a big actress like Zendaya.

Alex: Zendaya will not sign up for a cameo appearance, I’ll tell you that.

And she would be absolutely correct not to accept a cameo role since she is currently one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood.

Zendaya, who has won two Emmys and a Golden Globe for her role as Rue Bennett in ‘Euphoria,’ will return for the show’s third season, confirmed in July 2024. She is expected to focus more on ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 and other significant projects, rather than making a brief cameo.

There have also been rumored that Black Cat, played by Sydney Sweeney will join the MCU in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ installment, meaning that MJ could effectively be replaced by a superpowered supporting character and a new love interest.
